HERE IS THE MATERIAL, GIRL!
Costumer introducing a new fabric
(Moulin Rouge song: “Material Girl”)

Some try classy, some try dressy
Thanks to their design
Long as they’re not dull or messy
They know they look fine

Some like blue, but one thing’s true
The color’s your own call
Any hue that is truly you
Can take you into fall

Still everyone is showing with this material, world
And here is that material, girl!
Designers all are going with this material, world
And here is that material, girl!

Some are spending on what’s trending
Some just wear all white
I say just don’t show in flip-flops
And you’ll be all right.

Still everyone’s designing with one material, world
And this is that material, girl!
Designers all are mining just one material, world
And here is that material, girl!

(The material, the material, girl!)

SHUT UP AND WRITE  [as the songwriters meet the singer of their dreams]
(Moulin Rouge song:Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance”)

She said “Those words are nice
But sing like poetry”
I asked for her advice
She said, "Shut up and write for me!"
I longed to make good on her plea
When she said, "Ooh-ooh-hoo,
Shut up and write for me."

Went to clubs late every night
To find the right diva for whom to write
But one day at this diner I saw the light
Oh, we were perfect for each other,
Perfect for each other

She took my songs
She gave them point and focus
Made truth of my clichés.        [Tonoose: Hmm, that's a cliché, isn't it?]

I said “If you attack
Please do it helpfully.
Just don’t say I’m a hack”
She said, "Shut up and write for me!"
Her voice could be my destiny
She said, "Ooh-ooh-hoo,  shut up and write for me!"

SHAKE ‘EM OFF [about the show-within-the-show they're rehearsing, not the show!]
(Moulin Rouge song:  Shake It Out - Florence & the Machine)

True friends react like true fans
Like they believe each soapy moment
Strangers say no way, strangers say no way
That ain’t no way to write a play

You’ll try most anything to keep it fresh
But real life and drama do not mesh
So though we know the plot’s all wrong
Shake off those plot holes in catchy song

(chorus)
Shake ‘em off, shake ‘em off,
Shake ‘em off, shake ‘em off, oh whoa
Shake ‘em off, shake ‘em off,
Shake ‘em off, shake ‘em off, oh whoa
And it's hard to act with these plot holes in our show
Let’s shake ‘em off, oh whoa

We must make do with this real life script
Throw in hot chorus girls and guys who are ripped
The crowds  now wants less real, more soap
They don’t mind more plot holes, so we hope

(repeat chorus)
Shake ‘em off, shake ‘em off,
Shake ‘em off, shake ‘em off, oh whoa
‘Cause it's just a fact, the plot holes can not go
Let’s shake ‘em off, oh whoa

Possible parody recycles  from the Playlist:

SHE’S CALLING ME A CREEP
(Moulin Rouge song:  Rolling in the Deep )
- Adele's ex auditions for the Moulin Huge, but worries that  his reputation may have preceded him

an early sketch:  WHY ASK HER IN ADVANCE?
(Moulin Rouge song: Bad Romance - the 2nd act opener)
A clash between two rich talents brings to mind a quandry: Why did Weird Al ask Lady Gaga for permission to write about her, if he's not ready to accept "no" as an answer?
a simple extra: YOU’RE WRONG
(Moulin Rouge song: Your Song)
In order to cling to hope in the worst adversity, the cast recalls an inspirational historic night  - Casey being saved by the Idol judges after the American people had rejected him and voted him out
